As part of the new surgery building project at Heidelberg University Hospital (UKHD), we were commissioned to design the shielding modules for the MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) and CT (computed tomography) suites. The unique spatial constraints of each location were optimally accounted for during the planning phase, ensuring a perfect fit for the precision-prefabricated suites. Tailored biophilic design positively shapes the patient experience; it not only alleviates patient anxiety by fostering a sensitive “healing environment” but also enhances the quality of the workspace for staff. The design successfully supports smooth, complex workflows, thereby benefiting the UKHD Surgery Department’s state-of-the-art diagnostics and top-tier medical care.
